Our 2026 program highlights include:

Sarah Margu: Child of the Amistad – Live Performance (BPL Program @ Prosser 3/7/2026) – Saturday, March 7, 2026
- As part of our Women’s History Month and America 250 CT programming, we will watch a live performance of Sarah Margu: Child of the Amistad. One of six children stolen from the shores of Africa, Margu, along with 52 others, would be held captive on the schooner Amistad. After gaining her freedom, Margu would go on to become the first African to graduate from college in America at Oberlin College. Actor Tammy Denease will portray Sarah Margu’s poignant voyage from childhood denial to adult autonomy. This program is presented in partnership with CT Humanities. Tammy Denease is the Executive Artistic Director of the Hidden Women Stage Company, where she writes, directs, and produces plays about Black women hidden in history. In her position as a museum educator, Tammy instructs children through stories of colonial history, health, medicine, slavery, and Native history. When Tammy is not teaching, she is the Outreach Director for the Connecticut Freedom Trail.

February 3: African American Artists: 1800–1900 February 24: African American Artists: 1900–1960 March 10: African American Artists: 1960–present BPL is excited to welcome back “Conversations with Art” with Helane Rheingold. Helane has worked as a docent at the Neuberger Museum of Art in Purchase, NY, an instructor at Learning in Retirement, Inc. in Stamford, CT, and an arts enrichment facilitator in the Stamford Public Schools.
| Bloomfield Unlocked: What it means to have a Council-Manager Government |
![]() What It Means to Be a Local Government Volunteer Volunteering with the Town of Bloomfield is a hands-on way to make a difference right here in your community. Local government volunteers play an important role in shaping the services, programs, and decisions that keep Bloomfield running smoothly. Whether serving on a board or commission, helping at community events, or supporting a department initiative, volunteers bring valuable perspectives, energy, and expertise. They are residents who care deeply about their town and are willing to contribute their time to improve the quality of life for all who live and work here. By getting involved, you gain a deeper understanding of how local government operates — from how decisions are made to how policies are implemented. It’s also a great way to connect with neighbors, share your skills, and have a real voice in Bloomfield’s future. If you’ve ever wondered how you can give back or get more involved, volunteering with your local government is a great place to start. |
